Finding Out
This year our fourth graders are exploring human innovations. What are they and what is the impact on ourselves and our communities? Take a peek at our journey so far, and be sure to ask your favorite fourth grader all about it!

It's time to find out more about our Central Idea! For the past two day, our students have spent time viewing videos and discussing issues in the world that relate to science and technology, and the way they both impact humans, society, and the environment. Some video topics included climate change, attainable action, human survival in space, clean energy, ebola, kids taking action, and our food supply. Ask a fourth grader which video was most inspiring!

Today, our fourth graders came to class prepared to talk about an issue in the world related to our Central Idea. Kids met in small groups and shared their findings before brainstorming even more issues that could be inquired into. Next, we worked together as a large group to organize all of our ideas. For homework this weekend, we've asked our students to come up with two topics that they would love to sink their teeth into. Be sure to talk with your child about this challenge!

Possible Topics to explore
knowing ourselves and setting goals
March 8, 2016
Today our students finished their self-assessments on the Transdisciplinary Skills groups: Self-Management Skills, Communication Skills, Social Skills, Thinking Skills, and Research Skills. Though they've been working on these life skills throughout the Primary Years Program, our students know that there are still areas that they'd like to improve upon. Today in class our students set one or two goals based on their self-assessments. They also developed strategies that will help them strive towards reaching these goals during this year's Exhibition. Be sure to look for these in your child's online journal!

Interview Session with Mr. Schuyler Nippert
March 11, 2016
Today our students conducted an interview via FaceTime with Schuyler Nippert about the effects of climate change. The students used the Key Concepts to formulate questions around a short film that Mr. Nippert created about St. Mary's Glacier in Colorado. The class was very interested in Mr. Nippert's knowledge of climate change and enjoyed talking to him about what we could do to help slow down the process.
